Hun you can be the bigger person and still be good to yourself. You deserve to be happy!! Hope you are doing ok since you posted in February. Take care. Gxx

Thanks so much for this post! Unfortunately thoughout the holidays, it seems like I have this issue a lot. I was just mentioning this morning, to my husband, that I was dreading the grocery store. Everyone is soooo crabby! It's ...happy thanksgiving, now move out of the way..lol!! Especially when you have kids holding onto your cart. People are in a hurry and not happy! Oh well! And then there's the holidays with certain relatives. So, thank you for the suggestions!

There's an enormous difference between dealing with someone who is cranky and dealing with systematic abuse. Yes we tell our kids to turn the other cheek but at a certain point, if they are pushed hard enough, well we've all read the news lately about school bullies and what happens to the kids who just take it and don't talk about it. Those same bullying kids turn out to be the adult monsters who abuse employees, their families and others, and get away with it because people are afraid to take action. I'm not saying you should behave as badly as they do, but after awhile walking away condones the behavior and that's not good for anyone.

Thanks for this article. I deal with cranky customers all the time and i can handle it fine. However its harder to be the bigger person on a personal level- when someone you trusted turns their back on you and ignores you. I'm aching to confront this person and vent anger left right and centre. Imagine the temporary satisfaction i would get out of making her see how she's hurt me.... In the long run she'd deny everything and construe herself as the victim. She knows what she has done and i must be the bigger person, accept the situation, kill her with superficial kindness anytime i meet her and move on. Just this once i want to maintain my dignity whether she ever seeks me out again or not. The 'right path' is very hard to stay on but thats how i know i'm handling this correctly.

I enjoyed your post. I fight this subject everyday in my role as a probation officer/ticket collector. It really made me think. Good for you for being the bigger person. Frankly, I think you have a wonderful site. I love all the organization and forms.

What a great idea for a post--and such sound advice. I liked Anya's point about people feeling scared and out of control.

Thank you for including me. I'm honored. And it's neat to see how other people deal with these situations.

Best,
