What’s Happening?  Gather Around the Watercooler

So much happened last week, and our anticipation is building right now!  Many of you know that our office is in Alaska, and our local volcano, Mt. Redoubt, is about to erupt any day.  Understandably, disaster preparedness has been on a lot of people’s minds in Alaska, and this article resurfaced from Simply Thrifty:  Disaster Preparedness on a Budget.

  • New Help Series:  With so many moms and bloggers exploring the web 2.0 world now and the explosive growth of users on twitter, we started a new twitter help series in our Mommy Tech Department.  If you have any twitter questions you’d like addressed, feel free to email us.
  • We participated in Social Entrepreneurship Today this week offering problogger twitter help and the Carnival of Personal Development.
  • Domino Magazine, a cool home decorating resource, went out of business last week. You can read their sad goodbye letter here…  which makes us wonder if print material is slowly becoming irrelevant.  Will all magazines disappear?  Dosh Dosh talked about this too: The Future of Content in the Age of Information Overload.

Helpful articles that came out of our feed readers:

Frugal Hacks shares a great reader response about the effects of coming through the great depression.  This is such a wonderful account by Pat in Kitchener, you’ll simply have to read it for yourself:

“They all came through tough times, and I never knew any of them to be less than prepared to take care of themselves and their families.  They all lived on less than they made, stored what they could of extra supplies ( not just groceries), re-used, re-purposed, used it up, wore it out, invented new things they needed, repaired their own vehicles, grew their own vegetables, canned, then when freezers came in they froze some things as well…”  – Read the rest

Almost Frugal wrote about moving into your first apartment.

Lifehacker shares how to Brew the Best Possible Coffee Without Breaking the Bank.

Rocks in my Dryer gives us the scoop on the CPSIA for all the people making handmade items for sale, like on Etsy.

Being Frugal has a great article about what frugal living is.

We hope everyone has a great week and kicks off February to a strong start!
