Yes lysol does kill many germs. However Lysol themsleves say that it has to be used according to directions. The directions start this:

To Disinfect Hard Non-Porous Non-Food Contact Surface:
Use enough fresh towelettes to thoroughly wet surfaces.
Wipe surface and allow to remain wet for 10 minutes.
Allow surface to air dry.
Toss dirty wipes away.
To disinfect heavily soiled surfaces, preclean surface with a fresh towelette.
Do not use on dishes, glasses or utensils.
*when used as directed

How many of us actually sit there and make sure the surface stays wet for 10 minutes? Not many!!!!
Plus with all the wipes and containers going into land fill are we thinking about the enviroment?

I use lysol for disinfecting also, but I would never use lysol wipes on my kids hands! It is clearly printed on the container “not” to use them on hands, etc. I only know this, because my sister in law uses them on my niece and nephew “YUCK” and not to mention carcinogenic!

@Kim @Awemawak: This post came out in May 2009 and contained information that was emailed to us from Lysol directly. The quote from Lysol does not contain a typographical error; it stated “specifically the H1N1 strain” in Lysol’s email dated May 5, 2009 (shown above).

Lysol may have changed their claims and/or statements since then. The information provided in the post accurately stated Lysol’s position at the time of printing. We encourage all readers to keep themselves informed of any and all new information pertaining to the swine flu.

You did not read Lysol’s website correctly which states:

Q: Does LYSOL® kill Influenza A H1N1?
A. Laboratory tests have shown that many LYSOL® products, when used according to label instructions, are effective against similar strains of Influenza virus H1N1. These LYSOL® products include: LYSOL® Disinfectant Spray, LYSOL® Disinfecting Wipes, and LYSOL® All Purpose Cleaners, both pourable and trigger products.

Lysol is effective against SIMILAR strains of Influenza virus H1N1.

The information on Lysol’s website says that certain Lysol products “…are effective against similar strains of Influenza virus H1N1.” I think wording matters a little bit here. Though the chances are probably quite good that Lysol products kill Swine Flu, it is important to understand that, at least according to the website, thy have not entirely made the claim that Lysol kills the H1N1 strain.

LOL I was literally just telling my friend Nicole if she saw how many cans of Lysol spray, wipes, bathroom and kitchen cleaner I had she run farrr farrr away, but I see now it’s actually just swine precautionary measures. Good to know.

I wonder if that is why my 3 kids are rarely sick…my grandmother taught me Lysol and Bleach are the only things you need to keep a house sanitized
