Interesting!

Everyone loves going to a vacation. It is a good activity or bonding with family and friends. It is very to check on the things you need to bring. Start with the most useful like clothes, toiletries and stuff you need. Select a vacation bag that is comfortable for your belongings and also comfortable for you to bring.

@Kaye: thanks for the tips on asking the hotel for toys. I love the frisbee idea also. I've always been a rejecter of airplane pillows and blankets too, because of the bacteria/germs issue. This is especially timely now because of Swine Flu.

Great article. I so agree about the suite-style hotel. My absolute favorite is Residence Inn. If you have a large family or are traveling with grandparents, and normally have to get two hotel rooms, it can actually save you money to get their 2-bedroom suite. Plus it gives you a separate room for early bedtimes or naptimes.

Be sure to ask at the hotel if they have any balls or play items. Many of the Residence Inns have those available, and I would think other family-friendly places might as well. When I travel with my grandkids, I like to pack a soft flying saucer (like Frisbees only for the water). Then we have something fun to do outside that won't break any windows :)

If you are flying this summer and you normally use the blankets and pillows on the plane, be aware that at least some airlines have removed them do to swine flu precautions. Even though it's summer, it can be chilly in the later evening on a plane, especially for kids and grandkids :) You might want to take some of your own along.
