Review: Pocoyo Swiggle Traks

Recently I tested out the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005E7BDXW/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B005E7BDXW"title="Pocoyo Swiggle Traks" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Pocoyo Swiggle Traks set. Since my son loves train sets and Pocoyo, I figured this toy racecar set with an adjustable track would be the perfect toy for him!

I’m planning to give the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005E7BDXW/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B005E7BDXW"title="Pocoyo And Friends Swiggle Traks Feature Track With Bridge" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Pocoyo And Friends Swiggle Traks Feature Track With Bridge to my son as a Christmas present, so I had to try it out myself to see how well the features worked.

Pocoyo Swiggle Traks: The Good

We’ve had train sets in the past with my oldest daughter, and I found that they didn’t get played with very much because they track mostly made one predictable shape. The curved pieces and switch pieces were hard and permanent.

The Swiggle Traks are very small pieces, as you can see below, and they are all identical in size and shape. Because of the way they fit together, they bend back and forth to curve and flex. This feature is a huge benefit, because it means your child can configure this track into several different layouts.

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005E7BDXW/ref=as_li_ss_il?ie=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-20"title="Pocoyo Swiggle Traks" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">

The tracks also come in 4 different colors: purple, blue, green, and yellow, so your kids can keep the color sections together or mix and match for a rainbow look.

The moving bridge piece is shown below right. The racecar with Pocoyo inside takes 2 AAA batteries so that he can zoom around whichever track your child has made.

The tracks can be configured into a racetrack with the bridge (pictured at top), SwiggleStunt circle (pictured below left), and the SwiggleWheel (pictured below center).

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005E7BDXW/ref=as_li_ss_il?ie=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-20"title="Pocoyo Swiggle Traks" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005E7BDXW/ref=as_li_ss_il?ie=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-20"title="Pocoyo Swiggle Traks" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005E7BDXW/ref=as_li_ss_il?ie=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-20"title="Pocoyo Swiggle Traks" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">

I am certain that the SwiggleWheel will be my son’s favorite because he saw them create it on the Pocoyo television commercial and loved it! The SwiggleWheel looks like a hamster ball for Pocoyo’s car to drive around in. There is also a blue ball that comes with the Swiggle Traks set that can go on the track for Pocoyo to chase over and over!

Pocoyo Swiggle Traks: The Bad

Unfortunately, the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005E7BDXW/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B005E7BDXW"title="Pocoyo Swiggle Traks" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Pocoyo Swiggle Traks individual track pieces are a little hard to snap together. I know for my 4 year old, they would be too hard for him to put together on his own and mom or dad will end up helping with assembly!

I would like to see accessories and add-ons available to purchase. I was hoping we could buy an extra set of tracks to make it longer or make more configurations. It would also be nice to have other friends from the Pocoyo show in cars so they could race.

Pocoyo Swiggle Traks: Take It or Leave It

The Pocoyo And Friends Swiggle Traks Feature Track With Bridge is a fantastic toy that I can’t wait to wrap up for my son for Christmas! I know he’ll be begging to bring his Pocoyo in the racecar with him while he watches Pocoyo during TV time!

All in all, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005E7BDXW/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B005E7BDXW"title="Pocoyo Swiggle Traks" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Pocoyo Swiggle Traks is a fun toy with a really cool take on the old standby train set toy. Plus, for preschooler fans of Pocoyo, it’s just what they love!

In preparation for the Black Friday sales, we’ve got a lineup of tons of handy gadgets that you might want to pick up for your family and home during your discount shopping.

Pre-Black Friday Review Lineup: 14 Must-Haves for Family and Home

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00407ZHSO/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-2"title="Filtrete Water Station" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">

1. Filtrete Water Station.

Review: 3M sent me the Filtrete Water Station water filtration system to check out and I have to say it’s not only green, it’s just plain cool! I love that it reuses the same water bottles that can be washed in the dishwasher. The water filter is good for 3 months, and you can even sign up at their site for automatic reminders to change your filters.

The Filtrete Water Station is a great family Christmas gift for a busy family with kids that are constantly on the go.

Buy the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00407ZHSO/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-20"title="Filtrete Water Station" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Filtrete Water Station at Amazon for about $37.44 with free super saver shipping.

2. 3M Metallic Coated Command Hooks.

Review: I was sent a metallic coated command hook from 3M to try out, and I love it. You might remember that I vowed to only use command hooks in my new house instead of putting holes in the wall. This led me to hang my Christmas stockings with command hooks and my Valentine’s Day mail boxes with command hooks.

I love these hooks because they are each weight rated for how many pounds they can hold. Also, with different designs and finishes, you can match them to your home’s décor in any room.

Buy the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&ref_=nb_sb_noss&field-keywords=command%20damage%20free%20hanging%201%20hook&url=search-alias%3Daps&_encoding=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-20"title="3M Command hooks at Amazon" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">3M Command hooks at Amazon.

3. Cuddle Care Stroller Blanket.

Review: This fantastic convertible stroller blanket is a great idea for babies in cold climates this winter. It converts from a blanket to a sleeping bag to an in-stroller or in-car seat blanket cover. the extra pocket at the bottom doubles up to keep legs and feet warm, and the blanket zips up so it won’t fall out as baby moves.

Cuddle care stroller blanket is available at Babies R Us.

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001UDH3RE/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-20"title="Wonder Hangers" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">

4. Wonder Hanger (as seen on TV).

Review: You know I’m a huge infomercial fan, but I didn’t see Wonder Hanger on TV. A local store had them in the home organizing section and I thought I’d put them to the test making extra room in our closets.

They work wonderfully and are durable (holding my husbands bigger clothes and my babies’ tiny clothes). I use them in every closet in my home ( I know, a closet organization breakdown is in the works!).

Buy the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001UDH3RE/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-20"title="Wonder Hangers" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Wonder Hangers 8-pack on Amazon for about $7.5.

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ZYL63Q/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-20"title="Chill and Teethe" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">

5. Bright Starts Chill & Teethe baby teethers.

Review: These “coolies” as my family calls them are fantastic for chilling in the refrigerator for a teething baby. The clear plastic is textured and soft enough to chew on while providing resistance.

Hook them onto your stroller bar or shopping cart bar with linky doos so they don’t get lost in the store while shopping with baby!

Buy the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ZYL63Q/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-20"title="Bright Starts Chill and Teethe 3-pack" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Bright Starts Chill and Teethe 3-pack at Amazon for about $3.99 with free super saver shipping.

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001Z8SB2/ref=as_li_ss_il?ie=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-20"title="Gift wrap organizer" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">

6. Jokari Gift Wrap Organizer.

Review: This hanging plastic gift wrap organizer is a handy tool to keep your present wrapping supplies handy, but out of the way, all year long. Each side (front and back) has organizational pouches on it, including long ones to hold full rolls of gift wrap on both the right and left sides.

This gift wrap organizer hangs in my spare coat closet and is out of sight, out of mind until I need to wrap a gif.

Buy the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001Z8SB2/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-20"title="Gift Wrap Organizer" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Gift Wrap Organizer on Amazon for about $24.08 with free super saver shipping.

<a href="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?lt1=_blank&bc1=000000&IS2=1&bg1=FFFFFF&fc1=000000&lc1=0000FF&t=homeeverafter-20"title="Apple post it dispenser" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">

7. Post It Apple pop-up note dispenser.

Review: This apple post-it note dispenser just happens to match the apple décor in my kitchen, so guess where I’m putting it? Right next to the phone on the kitchen counter as a stylish way to take down quick messages! It’s weighted with something noisy (sand? beans? pebbles?) so that it stays on the counter when you pull out a sticky note. I love it!

This would make a great present for a teacher’s desk for Christmas.

Buy the <a href="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?lt1=_blank&bc1=000000&IS2=1&bg1=FFFFFF&fc1=000000&lc1=0000FF&t=homeeverafter-20"title="Apple Post-It pop up dispenser" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Apple Post-It pop up dispenser on Amazon for about $8.99 with free super saver shipping.

8. Ziploc Big Bags.

Review: I use Ziploc big bags for everything from extra toy storage to sleeping bag storage to hand-me-down clothes. They are durable and last for years! I use size XL and XXL to fit a variety of items.

Buy <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001GC4D04/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-20"title="Ziploc big bags at Amazon" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Ziploc big bags at Amazon for about $10 with free super saver shipping.

9. Fisher Price Healthy Care Deluxe Booster Seat.

Review: This booster seat is fantastic and you can just tell it was designed by parents! All of the important parts that get dirtiest and need full cleaning and sanitizing are removable. That’s right, folks, you can remove them and put them in the dishwasher to kill the germs! (You can put a lot of things in the dishwasher that you wouldn’t expect.)

The tray has a food cover that comes off, plus a carrying cover because the seat is portable. All of the trays can go in the dishwasher. It’s also portable so you can fold it up and take it to a restaurant and not worry about the germs on their high chairs.

This is the perfect booster seat for an older baby or toddler – we’ve used it for 2 kids so far and love it!

10. Kidswitch light switch extension.

Review: This extender is the perfect way to let your little “big helper” turn on and off the light switches by him or herself! The KidSwitch extender is 14” long, fast and easy to install of an light switch, and it even glows in the dark (so a child can see it in the dark for a nighttime bathroom break).

We installed this when our son was about years old and it worked like a charm. He felt like such a big boy!

11. Mead letters and numbers dry erase activity board.

Review: This dry erase flip board is perfect for young homeschoolers or just an eager-to-learn toddler getting started with pre-k basics. It is designed for age pre-k through 2nd grade and is great for repetitive handwriting practice without using up a lot of paper.

12. Quattro Safe Cut can opener.

Review: When I first saw this can opener, I couldn’t imagine how it could really open a can without leaving a sharp edge. However, it really works and makes it possible for my little cook helpers to throw away can lids for me!

Buy the <a href="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?lt1=_blank&bc1=000000&IS2=1&bg1=FFFFFF&fc1=000000&lc1=0000FF&t=homeeverafter-20"title="Good Cook Classic 4 in 1 Can Opener" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Good Cook Classic 4 in 1 Can Opener for about $18.13 with free super saver shipping.

13. Safe T Shapes decorative bath tub appliques.

Review: These decorative appliques (we tried the dolphins) add grip to the bottom of any slippery tub to keep your little ones from sliding on the wet surface. Unfortunately, if you do a lot of baths they only last about a year before the surface starts to peel off. Still, at about $4 a pack we consider that a pretty good lifespan.

14. Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.

Review: There’s no better way, in my experience, to take off crayon marks from places they shouldn’t be (walls, furniture, high chair tables). I use the Mr. Clean magic eraser almost daily with 3 kids under 4 years old and coloring everywhere!

Mr. Clean Magic Erasers are <a href="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?lt1=_blank&bc1=000000&IS2=1&bg1=FFFFFF&fc1=000000&lc1=0000FF&t=homeeverafter-20"title="Mr Clean magic erasers" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">available at Amazon and grocery stores and mass retailers everywhere.

With tablets like the iPad2 and Kindle Fire grabbing all the headlines, you may be wondering if a laptop is still a good deal?

You know I spend a lot of my days working with computers. So to test how well a new laptop with an AMD processor could keep up with my heavy schedule of twitter, facebook, and blogging, I reviewed a new Sony Vaio Y-Series laptop for AMD. This little Sony VAIO is now mainly my kitchen machine, which holds the pantry inventory for the whole family to use. This complete food inventory is vital to my menu planning!

Any laptop that I use has to be able to do a few things very well: It has to be able to move between Tweetdeck, Internet Explorer, Outlook, and Live Writer without long pauses. I don’t want to spend a lot of time waiting when I am using my basic applications. Additionally, I need a little something more for my travel laptop: it needs to fit well in my purse, it needs to have enough battery to last, and since I spend so much time writing, it needs to have a keyboard.

Sony Vaio Y-Series: The Good

I’m really impressed with how far laptops have come in the last 3 years. Travel laptops (under 4 pounds) used to be marketed mainly for executives. Their price was high and their performance was low. Then as netbook computers started coming out, the price was really low, and the performance was worse. Now, the machines are light, portable and powerful!

This Sony Vaio Y-Series is very inexpensive, yet has good performance. Considering the price for performance, this is a really good value. The battery life is great, lasting about 4-5 hours on a single charge. There are several good pieces of software that came on the machine, including software for working with your media – videos, pictures, and music.

These are some of the highlights that I enjoyed:

Up to 5.5 hours of battery life

The webcam does face tracking, motion detection and even records the room while you’re not there

3 USB ports (enough for a mouse, full-sized keyboard and a cord to download photos from your camera at the same time)

HDMI out (so you can hook up your laptop to the TV and watch Hulu or Netflix on a bigger screen)

It works together with other Sony products, being the keyboard for your Sony TV and a Sony PlayStation 3

An assist button that makes it really easy to get support, get updates, and reinstall everything if needed

Sony Vaio Y-Series: The Bad

While it’s got great performance for its size, it can be noticed that you’re using a smaller computer. But it’s not really a fair fight between say a Sony Vaio Y-Series and a mobile workstation. You do give up some performance by using a lighter, more energy saving system. To be fair, you can’t really stick a 15 pound laptop with a 17-inch screen in your purse and carry it across a large airport, or carry it with you around a new city all day when you’re hanging out with your friends at BlogHer.

While connected to a HDTV through the HDMI cable, it stuttered on each episode of “Running Wilde” on Netflix streaming, getting choppy at the same time in each episode. It would do this at about six minutes into the episode, and would continue for about two minutes. The wireless network didn’t really seem slow overall, and I was able to stream in HD, so I can’t say why it was doing that.

The shift button on the keyboard is only a small square, which makes using the keyboard for normal typing very unpleasant.

I had a hard time finding the power button, which is tucked away on the side of the machine. Out of the box, I tried to turn on the machine by pressing the Assist button. As a result, the machine’s first boot was in a restore mode that was a bit off-putting.

Finally, it has no DVD drive. Not having one saves space, battery, and weight, but it’s a pain to install programs that you’ve already bought, rip CDs, burn a DVD, or for that matter, play a DVD movie. If you want to do that, you’ll need to connect an external drive.

Our Computer Guy Said…

Michael Simmons from I Love PowerShell is an IT professional with over 15 years experience helping people with their technology needs. He gave this system a going-over and he had this to add.

Notes on the AMD processor: I really like this processor. I compare the AMD E-350 Processor to an Intel Atom Processor on steroids. It is extremely power efficient, allowing a long battery life. Additionally, it has dual cores so there’s no one program on your computer that can hog up the whole thing. These systems have netbook prices with laptop performance. They are great value systems, especially for the budget-minded. They’re not supercomputers, but they are super computers!

This processor actually functions better in a different system I’ve reviewed. The Sony Vaio Y-Series had a processor rating of 3.7, while this same processor on another system scored a 3.8. One difference I noticed between those systems is that the Sony Vaio Y-Series shipped with the 32-bit version of Windows 7, while the other system had 64-bit. Using the 32-bit version makes the system only see 3.5 GB of RAM, even though 4GB is installed. It may be splitting hairs, but it should have shipped with the 64-bit version.

The scores mentioned here are from the Windows Experience Index (WEI). A Windows Experience Rating of 2 is sufficient for performing basic word processing and functionality. A 3 or greater is required for running all the features of Windows 7, including the Aero interface. The highest score possible is 7.9, only achievable with the most advanced hardware. The overall score of a system is the same as the lowest score for any component (instead of an average). This system had an overall WEI score of 3.7.

Notes on the battery: The battery on this system was really good. I would expect a battery that lasts this long to add a lot of weight to the computer. That just isn’t the case. It was really surprising the that computer could get over 5 hours of battery life and still only weigh about 3 pounds.

I really didn’t have to baby the computer either. I put it through its paces – I used the wireless, kept the screen bright, and kept the processor going. It was working and still had great battery life.

It feels good being able to grab it up, take it with me out the door, and head to a coffee shop to get some writing done. As long as I plan on being back home within 4 or 5 hours, I can even leave the charger at home. I really like that.

Notes on the hardware overall: I like the hardware that I’m working with here. I don’t have any misconception that I’m working on some blazing fast system. But really it is fast enough. I have to say that I’m not much of a gamer anymore, but most games do not require as much processor as they do RAM, and even more than that – hard drive speed. The hard disk had a very good speed (a Windows Experience score of 5.9) so I think that most games would play great on this machine.

Sometimes when working with the smaller 11.6 inch screen, I miss having a larger one. That usually happens when I’m trying to put a browser and an Excel sheet both on it at the same time. It does get a little cramped.

I sometimes miss not having a DVD player/burner, and I also miss having an Ethernet port built in. Having a wireless only computer works most of the time, but I’ve been in some offices where plugging in was easy, but getting on the wireless is not. I understand it doesn’t have a lot of things that bigger, heavier laptops have. It’s all a trade-off, and not having those components actually saves battery life, size, bulk, and money.

Notes on the bundled software: Software that came on the machine included an EverNote client that allows you to quickly save clippings, browser screen shots, and notes from the computer to an online Evernote account (free).

The Microsoft Office Starter Edition is good enough to get by in a pinch. It gives the basics that you need from Microsoft Word and Excel, and you can use it as long as you want to, as long as you don’t mind some advertising. It does work, and it handles most of what I need – but I’m going to have to install the real Office because I can’t get by without Outlook.

Also worth mentioning is the webcam software, which includes a motion detection technology which can record for a few seconds (you can set how long) after it detects motion, and can even send you a snapshot from the recording to your email, and save a copy of the recording to a network server via FTP. So even if the person being recorded stops it and removes the video from the computer, it’s still accessible to you on your network server.

Notes on the bizarre placement of the assist button: One bizarre thing is the placement of the “assist” button. Pressing the assist button while the computer is on is really neat. It takes you to a support page, where you can update your computer, get a lot of information about your computer, and quickly and easily connect with Sony Tech Support.

But it’s right where a power button should be. Pressing the assist button while the computer is powered off makes the computer turn on, then automatically boot into a restoration utility where you’re just a couple of clicks away from wiping out all your data, and starting over with a fresh computer. Seemed like a bad place for that button to be, and I hope people don’t wipe out their data.

Sony Vaio Y-Series: Take It or Leave It

Take It: I’d say a Sony Vaio Y-Series is a great choice for moms on the go because of its smart functionality coupled with its affordable price. It also makes a great computer for a teen or college student, or anyone else whose backpack is already heavy enough.

Since recording this video, I’ve actually used this bumper again on my newest baby. Unlike my last daughter, Prynne thrashes so much that she gets her limbs stuck through the crib slats every time I put her down to sleep. The reservations I had before about using the Breathable Bumper have been outweighed by the fact that my baby can’t yet control her body enough not to get hurt in the crib slats.

While she’s in this phase, I’ll leave the Breathable Bumpers in the crib. After she’s grown enough to not get entangled in the crib slats, I’ll be removing the bumpers again for the same reasons as described in the video.

Recently I tested out the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001AH8JNC/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="potty watch" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">potty watch, so called because it is a children’s watch shaped like – you guessed it – a toilet. We purchased it for approximately $10 from Amazon as a tool for potty training our 3 year old son. Is the potty watch the be-all end-all in potty training tools? Find out.

Potty Watch: The Good

The <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001AH8JNC/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="potty watch" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">potty watch comes in pink or blue so your tot can be styling while they potty train!

The potty watch is shaped like a toilet, so of course your kids want to wear it!

The songs alternate and are fun sounding, so it makes your child want to go to the potty (a welcome push for parents with potty training-resistant kids).

Potty Watch: The Bad

The <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001AH8JNC/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="potty watch" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">potty watch is not waterproof. For little guys just learning to wash their hands, we found the water often got on the watch after the bathroom break.

The smallest setting on the timer is 30 minutes. For my son, he needed to be reminded much more frequently in the first days of potty training, like every 10-15 minutes. Unfortunately, there was no way to change the potty watch timer to less than half an hour.

There was no mute option to quiet the potty alarm during naptime. We found ourselves having to move the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001AH8JNC/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="potty watch" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">potty watch to the other side of the house during nap so that it wouldn’t wake up our son to go to the bathroom.

The watch is too difficult for a toddler to put on or take off by themselves. It would have been nice if they used and elasticized stretchy wristband instead of a hard plastic one that models a real watchband.

Potty Watch: Take It or Leave It

Take It: While you can most certainly potty train a child without the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001AH8JNC/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="potty watch" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">potty watch, it does a good job of not only reminding them when to go try, but also of feeling “big”, which goes with their new big kid role of being potty trained. The potty watch is a good value and durable (as long as it doesn’t get too wet during hand washing).

Where to Buy Potty Watch

The <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001AH8JNC/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="potty watch is available at Amazon for $9.99 with free super saver shipping" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">potty watch is available at Amazon for $9.99 with free super saver shipping and some mass retailers.

–

The <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00115S410/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-20"title="Bright Starts Pretty in Pink carrier toy bar" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Bright Starts Pretty in Pink carrier toy bar was purchased from Walmart as a test product for this review. If you’re looking for a toy bar for your infant carrier or car seat, is this the one you want to buy? Read on and find out how we fared while trying out this toy bar.

The packaging states that it is for babies aged 0-12 months. The <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00115S410/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-20"title="Bright Starts carrier toy bar" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Bright Starts carrier toy bar is designed to attach to the top handle of your car seat or baby carrier.

Bright Starts Carrier Toy Bar: The Good

The middle flower alternates between 6 different songs so the music doesn’t make mom and dad go crazy quite as soon!

Fun toys shake, rattle and make music

Pink color matches girl baby décor and other baby gear

Bright Starts Carrier Toy Bar: The Bad

The elastic straps are not made to withstand very much use. In one month of regular wear and tear the elastic started to ruffle, fray, and have strings pop out.

The elastic straps only at the ends of the toy bar do not allow the bar to be adjusted upward. It needs a velcro strap on the top of the bar as well so you can lift it up higher. This bar came down too low and hit my baby in the face with the toys.

The velcro on the elastic straps is not adjustable because it’s only 1 small square. This means the straps can’t be put onto the carseat handle and adjusted to fit snugly. Instead they slip all over the place and make the toy bar fall down the side, hitting the baby.

Bright Starts Pretty in Pink Carrier Toy Bar: Take It or Leave It

Leave It: Do not buy this carrier toy bar if you have another option. If you received it as a gift, take it back to the store for an exchange. There are too many inconvenience and safety issues with this toy bar to spend money on it.

Instead, look for a carrier toy bar that has true adjustable straps for the safety of your baby.

Review: Green Giant Just for One Broccoli & Cheese Sauce

Recently I tested out the Green Giant Just for One Broccoli & Cheese Sauce. These individual servings of frozen broccoli and cheese are perfectly portioned to go in the microwave for one person’s snack. We purchased it from Walmart’s frozen foods section.

Green Giant Just for One Broccoli & Cheese Sauce: The Good

The individual trays were handy for a healthy and quick snack. Each package includes 4 individual trays which must be kept frozen. The broccoli only took 2 1/2 minutes in the microwave and the broccoli tasted just as good as fresh broccoli.

The Just for One veggie trays are a great food for those watching their diets or on reduced-calorie diets, since they are portable, single serving, and only 45 calories. I used them when I was pregnant as a way to get extra servings of vegetables without having to cook more in between meal times.

The black plastic containers are top-rack safe in the dishwasher (wondering what else can be washed in the dishwasher? Read 22 Unexpected Things to Wash in the Dishwasher). The plastic containers can be washed and reused for kids’ craft projects like painting or glitter gluing. They’re still easy to clean up after arts & crafts time, but if they get too messy, you won’t mind throwing the containers away since they didn’t cost anything!

Green Giant Just for One Broccoli & Cheese Sauce: Take It or Leave It

Take It: The Just for One Broccoli & Cheese is an okay value and a great tasting product. I love these little frozen veggie trays! The only way to improve on this product would be to make them come in bigger packages, such as a 10 pack, to reduce the price per unit.

Where to Buy Green Giant Just for One Broccoli & Cheese Sauce

Green Giant products are available at most grocery stores in the frozen foods aisle.

–

I purchased the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015IN0XK/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-20"title="Crayola Pip-Squeaks washable markers" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Crayola Pip-Squeaks washable markers from our local Walmart as an ingredient in our homeschool caddies project. The caddies turned out just right, and the Pip-Squeaks markers were a surprising hit. Read on for my Crayola Pip-Squeaks washable markers review.

Crayola Pip-Squeaks Washable Markers: The Good

Size: These mini markers are the perfect length for little hands. For a toddler who is just old enough to start using markers to color with, they’re perfect. The length is shorter than regular markers, but the width is the same as longer markers so it’s easy to hold.

Washable: The Pip-Squeaks are packaged with the label “World’s Most Washable”. These markers are indeed washable. They came off of the table surface with nothing more than vinegar and a sponge, off the wall with Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, and off of clothes with a regular cycle through the washing machine.

The Pip-Squeaks marker were also easier to remove from skin. Soap and water was able to take the markers off of my son’s hands with no scrubbing by me!

The marker itself has a design of a cute marker guy with hands, feet, and a smiling face that made it even more appealing to my preschooler!

Crayola Pip-Squeaks Washable Markers: Take It or Leave It

I have no negative observations about the Crayola Pip-Squeaks washable markers. They are a good value (around $7 for a 16 pack) and are long-lasting, depending on how much your kids color with them. They aren’t like some markers that barely color when you remove the cap and seem dried out. The quality is definitely what you expect from a brand like Crayola.

Take It: I highly recommend the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015IN0XK/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-20"title="Crayola Pip-Squeaks washable markers" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Crayola Pip-Squeaks washable markers for their size and ease of cleanup.

Where to Buy Crayola Pip-Squeaks Washable Markers

Interested in buying Crayola Pip-Squeaks washable markers for your toddler or preschooler? You can <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015IN0XK/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-20"title="buy the Crayola Pip-Squeaks washable markers" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">buy the Crayola Pip-Squeaks washable markers 16 pack from Amazon for about $7 with free super saver shipping. Crayola Pip-Squeaks washable markers are also available wherever Crayola products or arts and crafts supplies are sold, including Walmart, office stores, and many grocery stores.

Review: Blumz Sink Strainer

Recently I tested out the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001KOTJUC?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="Blumz Sink Strainer" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Blumz Red Flower Sink Strainer in my kitchen sink. It was purchased from Fred Meyer as a decorative alternative to the traditional metal sink strainer for a kitchen drain.

Is the Blumz Sink Strainer really a viable alternative?

Blumz Sink Strainer: The Good

Matches with Décor: The <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001KOTJUC?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="Blumz Sink Strainer" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Blumz Sink Strainer comes in different colors so that you can match it to your kitchen décor. I especially liked this feature, since I could have a little accent of red in my sink to compliment my red apple kitchen.

Decorative vs. Utilitarian: The Blumz Sink Strainer really makes a sink, especially a stainless steel basin, look much less utilitarian and sterile. The plastic flowers look pretty and circle your sink drain, making it much more appealing to clean the food trap from time to time!

Blumz Sink Strainer: The Bad

All Looks, No Function: Unfortunately, the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001KOTJUC?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="Blumz Sink Strainer" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Blumz Sink Strainer is all looks and no function. The entire purpose of the sink strainer food catch is to catch the food, right?

The large gaps in between the red flowers and the clear plastic strainer piece are so large that huge pieces of food and debris can pass through them. With such a large amount of food going down the sink drain, it is only a matter of time before frequent sink clogs in the drain start happening.

Blumz Sink Strainer: Take It or Leave It

Leave It: While the Blumz Sink Strainer looks very nice, the function has to come first in a sink strainer. It’s not worth it to pay for plumbers to keep unclogging your drains because of all the food getting through your food catch. Do yourself a favor and keep looking for an alternative that’s both decorative and functional.

Where to Buy Blumz Sink Strainer

Our Blumz Sink Strainer was purchased at Fred Meyer. You can also <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001KOTJUC?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="buy the Blumz Sink Strainer at Amazon for about $4" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">buy the Blumz Sink Strainer at Amazon for about $4 plus shipping. If you do buy this strainer, you’ll need to read our article about how to unclog your drain for 45 cents.

I’ve tried the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001D7KNYW?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="Take & Toss Toddler Flatware" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Take & Toss Toddler Flatware 16 pack and am ready to sound off. We purchased it for approximately $4 from Walmart. This reusable plastic silverware pack for tots contains 8 forks and 8 spoons.

Take & Toss Toddler Flatware: The Good

BPA Free: The Take & Toss flatware is BPA free and contains no PVC, no phthalates, no polycarbonate, and no epoxy, so moms and dads can feel good about its safety.

Rounded fork: The fork is actually more like a spork, which helps your child keep more of the food on the fork and less falling off.

Long lasting: <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001D7KNYW?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="Take & Toss Toddler Flatware" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Take & Toss Toddler Flatware gives the idea just from its name that it is a disposable item that won’t last long because it’s inexpensive. However, we’ve been using these toddler utensils for quite a while and haven’t had to throw a single one away yet. I clean them on a hot sanitize setting in my dishwasher and have seen no plastic degeneration on the flatware yet.

This long life in a plastic is a compliment I can’t even give to my favorite Gladware and Ziploc reusable plastic containers, which do show plastic degeneration over a short lifespan, then must be thrown away.

Well-shaped: The wide handle makes Take & Toss Toddler Flatware very easy to hold onto for tiny hands.

Take & Toss Toddler Flatware: The Bad

Colors: <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001D7KNYW?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="Take & Toss Toddler Flatware" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Take & Toss Toddler Flatware comes in a multi-color pack that has assorted colors of green, blue, orange, yellow, and purple. It would be nice to be able to buy the packs in only the color you want. It would be even better if they had an assortment of girl colors to match with pink and princess toddler gear.

Take & Toss Toddler Flatware: Take It or Leave It

Take It: When choosing toddler eating utensils, I definitely recommend buying the Take & Toss Toddler Flatware. It’s affordable, long-lasting, and easy for toddlers to use by themselves. The quality of the material is impressive and does not degenerated quickly like many plastics on the market.

Where to Buy Take & Toss Toddler Flatware

Interested in buying Take & toss Toddler Flatware for your son or daughter? You can <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001D7KNYW?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="buy the Take & Toss Toddler Flatware 16 pack" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">buy the Take & Toss Toddler Flatware 16 pack from Amazon for about $2.99 with free super saver shipping. Take & Toss Toddler Flatware is also available wherever baby products are sold, including Walmart and many grocery stores.

Must for Travel with Baby: Bright Starts Pretty in Pink Play Gym

Recently I tested out the Bright Starts Pretty in Pink baby play gym. It was purchased from Walmart so we could give it a quick once-over with baby Seven testing the play gym out. Below is my video review of the girl baby Bright Starts Pretty in Pink play gym. Is this piece of baby gear worth buying?

Bright Starts Pretty in Pink Play Gym: The Good

The <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref_%3Dnb_sb_noss%26field-keywords%3DBright%2520Starts%2520Pretty%2520in%2520Pink%2520Play%2520Gym%26url%3Dsearch-alias%253Daps&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="Bright Starts Pretty in Pink Play Gym" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Bright Starts Pretty in Pink Play Gym has a detachable bottom so that it can be machine washed. Practicality scores big points with me, since I’m a mom and know I don’t want a play gym that can’t be de-germed by a scalding hot wash cycle!

There are plenty of loops for linkydoos to hold baby toys on the Bright Starts Pretty in Pink play gym, not only on the arches but on the mat as well.

The Bright Starts Pretty in Pink play gym is the best I have found so far for travelling. The bottom detaches from the arches. The bottom can then be folded flat or rolled and placed in a suitcase, and the arches can be bent to any size to fit in your suitcase too.

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref_%3Dnb_sb_noss%26field-keywords%3DBright%2520Starts%2520Pretty%2520in%2520Pink%2520Play%2520Gym%26url%3Dsearch-alias%253Daps&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="Bright Starts Pretty in Pink baby play gym" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Bright Starts Pretty in Pink Play Gym: Take It or Leave It

Take It: The <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref_%3Dnb_sb_noss%26field-keywords%3DBright%2520Starts%2520Pretty%2520in%2520Pink%2520Play%2520Gym%26url%3Dsearch-alias%253Daps&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="Bright Starts Pretty in Pink Play Gym" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Bright Starts Pretty in Pink play gym is an absolute MUST when traveling with a girl baby, either by plane, car, or bus. Baby will be glad to have her toys at the hotel and you won’t be giving up a lot of suitcase space to pack this play gym.

Where to Buy Bright Starts Pretty in Pink Play Gym

You can buy the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref_%3Dnb_sb_noss%26field-keywords%3DBright%2520Starts%2520Pretty%2520in%2520Pink%2520Play%2520Gym%26url%3Dsearch-alias%253Daps&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="Bright Starts Pretty in Pink play gym" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Bright Starts Pretty in Pink play gym at Amazon for $42.95 plus free super saver shipping. This baby play gym is also still available at Walmart stores. Check your local mass merchandiser’s baby aisle to see if they carry the Bright Starts Pretty in Pink play gym.

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002VECJIO?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="Cover Girl Professional Super Thick Lash mascara" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Review: Cover Girl Professional Super Thick Lash Mascara

It can be hard to find quality makeup that is reasonably priced when you’re ready to switch brands or products. I tested out the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002VECJIO?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="Cover Girl Professional Super Thick Lash mascara" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Cover Girl Professional Super Thick Lash mascara in brown.

It was in the cheap end of cosmetics (the Walmart $3-$6 range), but claims to be “professional” quality. Does this “smudgeproof mascara” live up to its maker’s claims?

Professional Super Thick Lash Mascara: The Good

I can’t go out of my way to say good things about the Cover Girl Professional Super Thick Lash mascara. The only good point I could find about this mascara is that it really does add volume and thickness to your eyelashes. Now, keep in mind, I didn’t say that volume would look good.

Professional Super Thick Lash Mascara: The Bad

The <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002VECJIO?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="Cover Girl Professional Super Thick Lash mascara" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Cover Girl Professional Super Thick Lash mascara is thick, goopy, clumpy, and of very cheap quality. Once applied, the wearer looks like a bad version of Tammy Faye Bakker (remember her from the 1980s TV evangelism stage?) that has gone through a dust storm.

Thick & dry: From the first day I purchased the product, the mascara inside was so thick and dried out it seemed like it was months old. The mascara was so dry that it actually flaked off of my lashes while I was wearing it. I suppose this means the smudgeproof claim is true, but the package didn’t say anything about being flake-proof.

Clumpy and goopy: The Cover Girl Professional mascara clumps not only on the mascara wand, but on your eyelashes as well. It is far too thick to be applied to lashes with any regard for how they will look afterward.

Poor quality: I really expect this quality of mascara from a mascara in a kit of Halloween costume makeup, but not from a well-respected brand like Cover Girl.

Professional Super Thick Lash Mascara: Take It or Leave It

Leave It: Spend a few extra dollars and skip this so-called “professional” mascara for one that will actually be wearable and easy to apply.

Bad, bad, bad – that is the best adjective I can come up with for this mascara. If you made the mistake of purchasing this makeup, don’t punish yourself by trying to wear it just because you spent money on it. Be kind to yourself and just throw away the Cover Girl Professional Super Thick Lash mascara.

Where to Buy

Still want to try this mascara for yourself? You can <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002VECJIO?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="buy Cover Girl Professional Super Thick Lash mascara from Amazon for $10.98" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">buy Cover Girl Professional Super Thick Lash mascara from Amazon for $10.98 for a 3-pack with free super saver shipping. The Cover Girl professional mascara is also available wherever cosmetics are sold, such as Walmart, Target, Ulta, Safeway, and more.

–

Review: Funkeyboard Stickers

While on my trip to AMD, I stopped in a little airport shop at the Minneapolis/ St. Paul airport and found this little gem: <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00117D8QY?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="Funkeyboard stickers" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Funkeyboard designer keyboard stickers. I decided to give the keyboard stickers a whirl and brought them home. The set I purchased for $11.95 + tax was a pink design called “bursting heart” (pictured above).

Should you spend the money on Funkeyboard stickers for your computer or laptop? Keep reading and I’ll tell you.

Funkeyboard Stickers: The Good

Cool colors and designs: Funkeyboards come in a variety of different colors and designs so that you <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00245FUIG?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="Funkeyboard stickers" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">can personalize your computer keyboard or laptop keys. They really have something for everyone- from camo to pink hearts to pirates.

Extra stickers: Funkeyboards come with extra sheets of stickers in different sizes and shapes so that you can make them fit to your keyboard.

Easy removal with no sticky residue: I removed my <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00117D8QY?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="Funkeyboard stickers" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Funkeyboard stickers after 3 weeks (you’ll find out why below) and was surprised to find out that they came off easily. There was no gummy residue left on my keys, but I did only have them on for a short time. I have no way to know if the sticky glue would be left behind if the stickers had stayed on the keyboard longer.

Funkeyboard Stickers: The Bad

Color came off: The color started to come off my Funkeyboard stickers the first week I put them on the keyboard. The keys that showed it the most were the high-use keys (middle row). After 1 week, the stickers looked old and worn out already.

Stickers fell apart: Within the first week, the top layer of the Funkeyboard stickers started to peel off of the keys. This meant the corners of all my middle row and much of my top and bottom rows had clear glossy film peeling up off of the colored part of the sticker. At this point, I knew I would have to remove the stickers.

Didn’t fit my keyboard: The Funkeyboard stickers do come with several different sizes and shapes of each key, but none of the sets fit my gaming keyboard (<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002RVZ4UQ?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="Zboard Merc" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Zboard Merc for playing <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006B7DXA?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="World of Warcraft" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">World of Warcraft). I had to use stickers from several of the different sets, and then the giant heart which is supposed to appear on your keyboard got messed up: my heart had two different bottoms! Still more stickers had to be cut down to fit my keys because none of the sticker sizes matched my keyboard.

Thinking this was only because I had a specialty keyboard, I tried the stickers on my laptop keys also. Surprisingly, the Funkeyboard stickers didn’t fit my <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00368CI9Y?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="pink Sony VAIO" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">pink Sony VAIO keyboard either.

Patterns are hard to match up: If you were going with one of the Funkeyboard sets that just had patterns and didn’t form a large picture on the keyboard, it wouldn’t matter so much about having to use the alternate stickers.

Funkeyboard Stickers: Take It or Leave It

Leave It: These stickers don’t last and are a waste of money!

Let’s consider the facts:

My Funkeyboard stickers lost their color in a week.

My Funkeyboard stickers also came apart the first week.

I had to remove all the Funkeyboard stickers from the middle row and top center/bottom center of my keyboard only 3 weeks after putting them on.

These stickers were not cheap; the set I purchased was $11.95 and lasted only 3 weeks. My keyboard looked better plain black than with these poor quality stickers smothering it. This is sad, because keyboard personalization would be a nice touch if it really lasted more than a month.

I recommend you save your money and look for other alternatives to the Funkeyboard designer keyboard stickers. I would not buy this product again.

Where to Buy Funkeyboard Stickers

If you really still want to spend your money on these stickers, you can <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00117D8QY?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="Funkeyboard stickers" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">buy Funkeyboard stickers at Amazon for between $9-$12 with free super saver shipping on some designs. The Funkeyboard company’s website claims to sell their own product, but has a broken sales page that won’t let you purchase anything. The Funkeyboard stickers may also be carried by local specialty shops.

–

Last week I tried out the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00008MOQA?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="Swiffer Wet Jet mop system" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Swiffer Wet Jet mop system. We purchased it for $17 on clearance from Walmart (the original price was $24.97).

I’ve been wanting to try out the Swiffer WetJet for some time now, since I hate getting out the mop and bucket. In fact, it’s such an ordeal that my house rarely gets mopped, especially the kitchen which needs it the most.

The Swiffer Wet Jet is like a mop, but without the water. It has a container of cleaner that you spray using a button on the handle, and a disposable pad that attaches to the bottom of the mop head.

Is the Swiffer Wet Jet worth the money? Read on and find out.

Swiffer Wet Jet: The Good

Money back guarantee: Swiffer offers a money back guarantee within 30 days with the UPC and receipt. The details for using the guarantee are on their website at Swiffer.com. I love the money back guarantee on products because it gives me confidence that if the product doesn’t meet my expectations, I haven’t wasted money on it.

Safe for tile and hardwood: The Swiffer WetJet can be used on tile, laminate, and finished hardwood floors. That makes it quick and easy to clean the floors in your kitchen, bathroom, and living room all with the same mopping tool.

4 different cleaners available: The 4 cleaners you can buy to go with your Swiffer Wet Jet are multi-purpose, multi-purpose with Febreze, wood, and antibacterial.

Warranty: Swiffer Wet Jets come with a 1 year limited warranty, which is pretty amazing considering the low cost of the product.

Convenient: The <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00008MOQA?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="Swiffer WetJet" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Swiffer WetJet has no setup or hassle when you need to mop. With a mop and bucket you still have to find the cleaner, fill the bucket with water and cleaner, then do the mopping, wringing, and rinsing. How many people want to go through that process to clean up a spilled glass of grape juice?

The Swiffer Wet Jet is easy to grab to clean up spills or spot clean messes; it’s already set up and ready to go. I’ve used the Swiffer several times already to clean up quick messes that I never would have mopped before.

Swiffer Wet Jet: The Bad

Cleaning solution leaves floor sticky: The cleaning solution may be strong, but it leaves the floor sticky to the touch after mopping.

Confusing to put together out of the box: The directions for assembling the Swiffer Wet Jet and inserting the bottle of cleaner the first time are not clear. I ended up with cleaning solution spraying out of the bottle until I got it inserted the right way (after about 4 tries).

Pads don’t last long: Each pad is meant to clean approximately 2 rooms. With only 2 pads in the starter kit box, you need to buy a box of replacement pads the first day you bring the Swiffer Wet Jet home.

No stand or cover for the bottom: For quick touch ups you don’t need to change the pad, as it can still be used again. However, the partially dirty pad that stays on the Swiffer Wet Jet will end up touching your floor wherever you stand the Swiffer up. It would be helpful if they had a wall mount for the Swiffer or a cover to go on the bottom.

Scrubbing strip hard to maneuver: The Swiffer mop head is designed to flip up on edge to use the scrubber tool on tough spots. However, you have to reach down and use your hand to move the mop head each time you want to use the scrubber.

No scuff removal: The scrubber tool does not remove scuffs on laminate flooring.

Weak velcro strips: The strips that hold the replacement pads to the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00008MOQA?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="Swiffer Wet Jet" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Swiffer Wet Jet mop head are not very strong. In fact, you have to press really hard to get the pad to stay on the first time.

As I mopped, the pad also came loose a couple of times. That meant I had to press on the dirty and wet pad with my hands to stick it back to the Swiffer Wet Jet mop head. As a germophobe, the germs and grossness were 2 things I could do without.

Where’s the solution? It was hard to see where the solution had sprayed onto the floor since it sprays out clear, making it difficult to know where to steer the Swiffer Wet Jet while mopping.

Cleaning edges difficult: The Swiffer Wet Jet’s swivel head makes it hard to clean along straight edges, like walls or cabinets. I just couldn’t get the mop head to not swivel and move in a straight line.

Swiffer Wet Jet: Take It or Leave It

Take It: Swiffer Wet Jet is a must-buy mop alternative!

The Swiffer Wet Jet comes highly recommended by me! Even with it’s shortcomings, which I’d love to see improved, the ease of use and convenience over mop and bucket (or sponge and scrubbing) is hard to pass up.

The initial cost is low, but the replacement cleaner and pads could hit you hard in the pocketbook if you’re not careful. Watch for Swiffer coupons and stock up when the replacements are on sale. Amazon offers the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0035G078Q?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="subscribe and save list" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">cleaner at 15% off when you put it on your subscribe and save list, but they don’t offer the discount on the box of <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001FOLW52?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="Swiffer replacement pads" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Swiffer replacement pads.

Where to Buy the Swiffer Wet Jet

The Swiffer Wet Jet starter kit is available on Amazon for approximately $21.00. <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00008MOQA?ie=UTF8&tag=wetryeverything-20"title="buy the Swiffer Wet Jet starter kit on Amazon" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Click here to buy the Swiffer Wet Jet starter kit on Amazon. You can also purchase the Swiffer at Walmart, Fred Meyer, Target, and other grocery stores and mass retailers in the cleaning aisle.

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0010BCFCY?ie=UTF8&tag=rev4mom-20"title="Infantino Front 2 Back Rider" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">

Recently I tested out the Infantino Front 2 Back Rider baby carrier and backpack. We purchased it used (with the box and manual) for $12 from Once Upon a Child.

Is the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0010BCFCY?ie=UTF8&tag=rev4mom-20"title="Infantino Front 2 Back Rider" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Infantino Front 2 Back Rider a stellar enough baby carrier to replace your others? Read on to find out its good points as well as its shortcomings.

Front 2 Back Rider: The Good

Wide weight range: The Front 2 Back Rider baby carrier fits a wide range of children, since it can hold 8-32 pounds. My toddler son is 3 years old and in this range, as is my 8 month old daughter. In theory, this means we could only take one carrier with us when leaving the house and it could be used for either child.

Memory foam straps: The memory foam shoulder straps on the Infantino Front 2 Back Rider are more comfortable than plain straps, but wearing this carrier for 2 hours straight will still leave your shoulders aching.

Versatile: The <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0010BCFCY?ie=UTF8&tag=rev4mom-20"title="Infantino Front 2 Back Rider" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Infantino Front 2 Back Rider can be worn as a front pack baby carrier (baby facing in or facing out) or a back pack baby carrier. It grows with your child.

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0010BCFCY?ie=UTF8&tag=rev4mom-20"title="Front 2 Back Rider baby carrier" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Headrest flap snap: The Infantino Front 2 Back Rider carrier has a flap snap to hold the head rest down for older babies.

This is a big improvement over other carriers which are supposed to have the flap folded down but no velcro or snap to keep them in place. The folded down headrest rarely stays down, and can flip up and hit your child in the face. The Infantino’s snap makes it impossible for the flap to come up unless you want it up.

Mesh: The stretchy BreatheMesh material makes the carrier much more stretchable than other carriers (made of solid or denim material). The mesh material seems to fit baby better than other fabrics.

Lumbar support strap: The strap that goes around your low back does make this carrier a little easier on your back than those without it. It provides a little more support, but not enough to stave off the next-day-backache.

Front 2 Back Rider: The Bad

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0010BCFCY?ie=UTF8&tag=rev4mom-20"title="Front 2 Back Rider" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Not big enough: My husband put our son in the Front 2 Back Rider on his back and while Truett did fit in it, it was very tight and looked extremely uncomfortable. Let’s just say the carrier gave him the wedgie of the century (pictured at left)! While it may hold the weight of a 3 year old, it certainly wasn’t designed to fit the larger body of a toddler.

Hard to put on: The buckle in the back is very difficult to get hooked together if you’re wearing the carrier as a front pack. It’s hard to get this carrier on yourself unless you have another adult nearby to help you.

Outside pocket: The mesh pocket on the front of the carrier is big enough to put your hand in, but you couldn’t dream of fitting a pacifier in there.

The <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0010BCFCY?ie=UTF8&tag=rev4mom-20"title="Front 2 Back Rider" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Front 2 Back Rider packaging suggests you put keys or a wallet in the pocket. I don’t think that would be very comfortable for the little guy in the carrier!

Too tall when folded down: The headrest flap doesn’t go down far enough for an outward-facing baby. The flap hits them in the mouth and gets drooled all over as pictured at right)!

Top straps not adjustable: The top straps are not adjustable and can really squeeze your child with uncomfortable pressure.

Non-standard top hooks: It took my husband and I quite a while to figure out how to attach the top hooks on the Front 2 Back Rider. They don’t seem very reliable, and I find myself afraid that they will come open while I’m babywearing.

Front 2 Back Rider: Take It or Leave It

The <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0010BCFCY?ie=UTF8&tag=rev4mom-20"title="Infantino Front 2 Back Rider baby carrier" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Infantino Front 2 Back Rider baby carrier has as many good points as bad points. It’s a lot better than many baby carriers I’ve tried, but I’m not stopping my search for the perfect babywearing system yet. The Infantino would need a lot of improvements to make it my everyday choice for toting my babies hands-free. It’s inexpensive and certainly works for short spells of hand-free time to get household chores done, but not long outings (like grocery shopping).

Take it or Leave It? If you don’t have a better baby carrier already, take it. It will get you by while you keep looking.

Where to Buy Front 2 Back Rider

The Infantino Front 2 Back Rider baby carrier is available at Amazon for between $22-$28 with free super saver shipping and free returns (or low shipping if from a 3rd party vendor). <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0010BCFCY?ie=UTF8&tag=rev4mom-20"title="Click here to buy the Infantino Front 2 Back Rider baby carrier at Amazon" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Click here to buy the Infantino Front 2 Back Rider baby carrier at Amazon.

Recently I tested out the new Kleenex hand towels. In my ongoing quest to keep my little ones’ hands as germ-free as possible, the Kleenex hand towels seemed like a great idea.

The box comes with 60 folded paper hand towels. I purchased the teal box which is pictured at left for around $3.50. Would I recommend buying Kleenex disposable hand towels? Should you take it or leave it?

Kleenex Hand Towels: The Good

Kid approved: My kids took right to the disposable hand towels and frankly, I was thankful not to have their germy hands all over a regular bathroom towel!

One at a time: The hand towels don’t stick together, and I never saw 2 towels come out of the box at the same time.

Space saving: The box is very skinny from front to back, which makes it easy to place on a bathroom counter because it doesn’t take up a lot of space.

Won’t break the bank: The price is decent; the box of Kleenex hand towels I purchased barely cost more than a box of Kleenex tissues. Of course, using a washable towel is even more frugal, but then you have the germs to contend with.

Kleenex Hand Towels: The Bad

They don’t last long: With 60 Kleenex hand towels in the box, I was unsure of just how long one box would make it in my medium-use home bathroom. I expected at least a week’s worth of hand towels for 4 hand washers (and I was out of town for a few of the days). It was surprising that the box only lasted for 5 days, especially because for many of my hand washings I was still using a regular towel.

Hard to identify: Without the plastic label on the front (which I tore off because it was loose and I thought it was supposed to be removed), you can’t really tell what this box is. You might not know that it isn’t just a tall box of facial tissues, because the box looks just like a Kleenex box (imagine that!). In fact, my family only knew it was for drying hands because I told them.

If I’d had guests come over, I doubt they would have known instinctively that the teal box held their replacement to a big fluffy hand towel. There is a tiny strip of clear plastic around the opening that says “Kleenex hand towels”, but I wonder how many people will really read it.

Too light to stay on the counter: The box is lightweight cardboard and lifts up from the counter when you try to pull a hand towel out of the box. This is a problem because you have to then hold the box with one wet hand while you pull out a towel with another wet hand. Did I mention the box was made of cardboard? The water from your wet hands makes for rippling on the box after it soaks in. If Kleenex was to make a decorative box holder for these packages, it would be a big improvement.

Kleenex Hand Towels: Take It or Leave It?

For an adult only bathroom, I say skip the Kleenex hand towels. It’s cheaper to use a hand towel and launder it, and at least you do know where your hands have been (unlike with your children)!

You could almost get the same effect by putting a paper towel rack in your bathroom and installing a fresh roll of paper towels. The paper towels would be a much more frugal option if you’re dead set on having disposable hand towels in your bathroom.

However, in a kid bathroom, I definitely recommend buying the disposable Kleenex hand towels. With the Kleenex hand towels, you’ll be able to track how much their hands are being washed, because you can tell how many days it took a box of 60 hand towels to disappear. Also, you’ll have a lot less cross-contamination of germs by having them use disposables instead of sharing a regular towel with other kids (who may be wiping their faces, noses, toothpaste, etc. on the towel too).

Where to Buy Kleenex Hand Towels

I picked up my Kleenex hand towels at Walmart for around $3.50. However, you can also buy them on Amazon, where you can get a 6 pack of <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00387F3RM?ie=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-20"title="Kleenex hand towels for $21.21" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Kleenex hand towels for $21.21 with free super saver shipping. You can <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00387F3RM?ie=UTF8&tag=homeeverafter-20"title="click here to buy Kleenex hand towels on Amazon" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">click here to buy Kleenex hand towels on Amazon or look for them in your grocery store on the paper towels aisle.

The idea of The Ultimate Shortcut Cookie Book cookbook: easy recipes great for any homemaker or aspiring baker who wants to turn out quality baked goods but is short on time. All 700+ recipes in the cookbook start with ingredients that are ready made to speed up the process.

There are really creative recipes in this collection, as well as tried and true recipes which you may have baked before. However, all the recipes are the quicker version which starts with a ready-made ingredient, such as refrigerated cookie dough, brownie mix, boxed cereal, or cake mix. Not having to mix up all the ingredients can help you to make up cookie batches quicker than ever!

What Could Be Improved

Everyone loves cookbooks with full-color pictures, because it’s nice to see a photo of the food you’ll be cooking from the recipe. The Ultimate Shortcut Cookie Book only has 2 full color sections of photos, 1 in the middle and 1 at the end of the book.

We’ve been happy to have <a href="http://dutchboy.com/"title="Dutch Boy" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Dutch Boy paint as the sponsor for some of our nifty home DIY projects this summer at Home Ever After. Dutch Boy Refresh paint has been our paint of choice, and we’ve had a wonderful experience using it.

If you missed our home DIY project in which we did a makeover on kitchen cabinets, go check it out now to see some amazing before and after pictures!

Review: Dutch Boy Refresh Paint

Packaging: The packaging on this new paint is definitely designed with ease of use in mind.

The Dutch Boy plastic package is much lighter than the traditional heavy paint cans.

The Dutch Boy square shape instead of a round can is a much better use of storage space. These paint containers can not only be stacked on top of each other, but line up exactly next to, in front of, and behind each other on shelves with no wasted storage space.

The easy on, easy off Dutch Boy paint lid is so easy that even those with a diminished grip should be able to manage it’s opening and closing. The screw on lid turns to go on and come off with 2 easy plastic grips protruding to use as leveraging “handles”. No more prying off a metal lid from a traditional paint can!

There is a built in plastic carrying handle that stays to the side when at rest.

Smell: Although the fumes from paint can be quiet obnoxious and overpowering, the paint smell was not present with Dutch Boy Refresh paint. We noticed a definite difference between this brand and traditional paints, in that there is no “paint odor”. The house we were working on barely hinted that there was a painting project going on, as there was no tell-tale paint smell or any strong fumes.

Consistency: This creamy paint has a very even consistency, and unlike many other paints, does not separate out. We noticed that it was barely even necessary to stir the paint before adding refills to our paint pan. The pigment is very evenly distributed, making for a more even application on your desired surface (which was laminate kitchen cabinetry, in our case).

Website Color Selection: The feature on the Dutch Boy website for choosing your paint color is truly unique (shown at right). Not only can you select a room that mimics what you’ll be painting (e.g. bathroom, nursery, etc.), but you can then have the color swatch virtually applied to the room to get a better idea of what it will really look like when finished! You have to check out the Color Simplicity Tool here.

Cons: There wasn’t anything about the Dutch Boy Refresh paint that I didn’t like. Even the price is affordable, perfect for frugal DIY homeowners!

The Short Version

From start to finish, from their packaging design process to their considering my user experience, Dutch Boy has done a top notch job.

While using Refresh paint, I could tell it was created to make it easy for women to do home DIY projects. It’s apparent that their Research & Development funds were wisely used and that real consumers’ input was important when designing this new product. I was pleased as can be with this paint, and it definitely gets the Home Ever After stamp of approval!

I’ve got a nine-year-old and a thirteen-year-old boy, and doing their laundry (not to mention my husband’s), isn’t the most pleasant job in the house –sorry guys! Anything that cuts down on the time I spend dealing with their dirty clothes is worth a second look.

I recently received a new kind of laundry detergent in the mail called “<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref%255F%3Dnb%255Fss%255Fgw%26field-keywords%3Ddropps%26url%3Dsearch-alias%253Daps&tag=homembarbi-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957"title="Dropps" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Dropps.” It looked to me kind of like the gel packs you use in your dishwasher. You toss them in the washing machine, turn it on, and that’s it. They’re pre-measured, and you use one or two, depending on the size of the laundry load.

Here’s what I like about Dropps:

They’re convenient. Since the amount of detergent is pre-measured, you drop them in the machine with no mess and no measuring. There are no more laundry detergent bottles with sticky soap running down the sides sitting on your laundry room shelves.

You use the right amount of laundry detergent every time. I know I use too much liquid detergent. If you look at where the lines are in the measuring cap of your laundry soap bottle, you’ll see that even for large loads, you shouldn’t be filling the cap up to the top. I admit that I often do though without even thinking.

Dropps could save you money. I will admit I haven’t done the math, but because I am guilty of using too much laundry detergent, I expect switching to Dropps will save me money, since I can’t overuse it.

And, if you have a spouse or especially children doing laundry, you don’t have to worry that they will use too much detergent with such an easy-to-use product.

Finally, Dropps are environmentally friendly. Dropps are super-concentrated and come in small, lightweight packaging. They still do the same job, of course, but you can forget buying those big plastic jugs of detergent. This is better for the environment in terms of resources used to produce the packaging and in terms of resources used to ship these heavy bottles across the country to our stores.

The bottom line? I don’t know the retail price of Dropps, and I haven’t seen Dropps in my local stores yet, but assuming they are reasonably-priced, I would say they are definitely worth a try. I would even say they are worth a little more than traditional detergents. Why? Because they should last you longer if you’re anything like me and don’t measure your liquid detergents precisely. Convenience and time saved is definitely worth something as well.

—

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001UAHWDW?ie=UTF8&tag=homembarbi-20"title="Febreze Noticeables Moroccan Bazaar Scented Oil Warmer" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">

This week I tried out the new <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001UAHWDW?ie=UTF8&tag=homembarbi-20"title="Febreze NOTICEables Moroccan Bazaar scented oil warmer" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Febreze NOTICEables Moroccan Bazaar scented oil warmer for review.

The packaging says this about the scent: “Inspired by the fragrances of fresh-ground ginger and nutmeg that fill the air in the spice markets of Casablanca.” With a description like that, who wouldn’t want to smell this scented oil air freshener in their house?!

This was my first time using a plug-in air freshener of any brand, so I didn’t know how strong or noticeable the scent would be. For this reason, I chose to put it in my rather small bathroom so that I would be able to tell how quickly it could scent a room.

Easy to Use

Having never used a plug-in freshener like this before, I had to rely on the directions in the package to figure out how to assemble the scented oil warmer and how to use it. I have to hand it to Febreze that the directions were simple, accurate, and very easy to follow. It took me no more than 1 minute to set up the Febreze Moroccan Bazaar scented oil warmer and get it plugged in.

I also learned that there are 2 settings on the back of the warmer (high and low) for disbursement of the scent, so that you can choose how much fragrance you would like.

Once plugged into the electrical outlet, a soft green light came on at the top of the scented oil warmer. This makes a nice subtle nightlight, especially for bathrooms or hallways.

Effectiveness

It took only about 5 minutes to perfume the air in my bathroom, and I left it plugged in on the low setting for about 2 hours. Even after I unplugged the scented oil warmer and set it on the bathroom counter, my bathroom still smelled like the fragrance 1 day later. I recommend not using this product in enclosed or very small spaces, as it does have a lot of power.

As for the scent, the Moroccan spice is lovely! It smells like gingerbread cookies, baking in the fall, a country kitchen, or baking cookies at your grandma’s house after church. The smell is much more appropriate for a kitchen than a bathroom, and plugging this scented oil warmer in will make anyone entering the house immediately think there is something baking in the kitchen! (Warning dieters: This scent may make you hungry!) I’ll be moving the Febreze Moroccan Bazaar scented oil warmer to my kitchen ASAP.

This product was fun to test, and I really like the scratch and sniff sticker on the outside of the package. The scratch and sniff patch matched the true scent of the oil perfectly, so this is a great way to gauge the smell in the store before you buy the oil warmer.

<a href="http://elevenmoms.com"title="Walmart 11moms" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">As a Walmart More Than 11 Moms mommy blogger, I get to try out lots of new products. We recently checked out the new White Cloud Green Earth toilet paper and paper towels.

Both the paper towels and toilet paper are made from 100% recycled paper and recycled fiber, making them a great green choice for environmentally conscious moms.

Sources: From the back of the package, we learned a little about the recycled materials the White Cloud paper products are made from: “Green Earth comes from everyday recyclables like office paper and magazines, deflecting megatons of waste paper from entering landfills and saving numerous trees from commercial harvest.”

Value: I can’t comment on the value related to the price for either of these products, since I have not yet check the retail prices. From my past experience, the White Cloud brand tends to be a very frugal choice, with great quality at low prices.

White Cloud Green Earth Toilet Paper

Pros

I know the first question on your mind is probably if the tissue and paper are soft! That’s the first thing I wondered, since I’ve had previous experiences with eco-friendly recycle papers that were stiff and scratchy. No one wants to use tree bark in the bathroom! The package says the toilet paper is “Premium Softness” – so how did it measure up to it’s description?

The White Cloud Green Earth toilet paper really is soft and gentle. It’s quilted (with “Cloud Cushions”) and consists of 2 ply thickness, making it indistinguishable from other leading brands. When I put the rolls up on a shelf with our regular brand of toilet paper, you couldn’t tell them apart. They felt the same and looked the same.

The White Cloud toilet paper is hypoallergenic, and the giant rolls have 30% more sheets than regular rolls.

The Ice-Simmons Family Test

The most important part of this product review was when we put the green earth toilet paper to the test by the Ice-Simmons family. I replaced our regular rolls with White Cloud brand, and we used all 4 rolls. No one knew the difference – they couldn’t tell that we were using our normal brand of toilet paper!

That made me feel good, because I knew I wouldn’t be sacrificing quality for my family to buy a green, environmentally friendly product.

White Cloud Green Earth Paper Towels

Cons

We applied the same softness question to the paper towels, and I have to say they did NOT pass the softness test. The paper towels are hard to fold and bend, very stiff, and definitely feel like the traditional “recycled paper feel” – hard. This affected their absorbency only minimally, but it was noticeable.

Pros

What we did like about the White Cloud Green Earth paper towels is that they come in choose-a-size sheets. That means they are perforated into narrow strips, so you can tear off a narrow towel for a small job, or tear off 2 or 3 together for a larger job. The versatility in sizes is a definite bonus, especially for moms and dads who find themselves using paper towels for a variety of different chores.

All in all, the White Cloud Green Earth toilet paper and paper towels are a good green alternative to traditional paper products. My only recommendation is for White Cloud to improve the absorbency and softness of the paper towels. I like White Cloud’s concern for sustainability and environmental choices in the development of their new products.

What experience had you had with green and recycled toilet paper and paper towels? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
