I’m Sending Rings to Cash 4 Gold

The economy’s rough right now and many families are trying to locate extra money that might be lying around the house to help out with expenses.  Selling unneeded items, furniture, collectibles and jewelry are just a few methods we’ve heard about lately that are getting more popular.  My family is no exception. This post is a little personal and talks about something that my husband and I dealt with recently – old wedding jewelry.  What are you supposed to do with it?  Since both of us had been married before, we had old wedding rings that neither of us wanted to keep.  We knew the rings had some monetary value, but didn’t know how to go about selling them.

We tried to take them to local pawnshops, but they all said they weren’t taking wedding bands or engagement rings because they simply had too many. It didn’t make sense to me to throw away these old wedding and engagement rings, because I knew they had some cash value, but I didn’t want to put them in the newspaper or on eBay.  That’s why I started looking online for other options.

I found a site called cash4gold.com that buys used jewelry to melt down for scrap metal, which looks like a good alternative.  I looked up cash 4 gold and found that people had a lot of different opinions.  According to the website, you request a free insured kit to send in your jewelry.  After receiving your jewelry, they determine the “melt” value and send you a check.  If you’re not happy with the amount, you just return the check within 10 days and they send you your jewelry back.

They have a 100% satisfaction guarantee and plenty of testimonials.  I even watched a commercial on their site that is supposed to be playing during the superbowl tomorrow.  Their site lists out the other ways of selling your jewelry which might give you a higher value, and it seems like their service is pretty straight forward.  I’m willing to try it out, and my husband agreed.

Now the fun part:  Experiment Time!

Here is the plan: I will request the free pack to send in my jewelry.  Once it gets here, I’ll send in the rings and wait for my check from the jewelry buyer.  I know people will be wanting to know how it works out, so I’ll update everyone with my experience.
