Kitchen Tip: Date Your Pantry Items with Marker
Stocking up at sales can be an inexpensive way to fill your pantry and cut your grocery bill over the long-term! However, the more of something you have, the harder it is to keep track of. How can you make sure you know which are the oldest items and ensure they get used up first?
The best way to track your pantry items is to start when you bring them home from the grocery store. Keep a sharpie marker handy in the kitchen and date:
· the top of every can
· the side of every box
· the lids on condiment bottles/jars
Put the new items behind the old ones, and always make sure to use the oldest items (in the front) first!

I’ll do this w/my laundry soap, toilet paper and a few other longer term things to find out how long it lasts.
@Barbaralee:
That is a fantastic idea!
