I like darker colors too. Call me a grouch in the morning, but I don’t want to wake up to happy pastel colors. I want to be enveloped in deep, rich colors that make me feel cozy and loved. My bedding is a deep cranberry velvet and I like the feel as well as the statement that it makes. HOT!

For a peaceful ambiance, take a leaf from the Japanese: Japanese-themed decor not only exudes tranquility, they are very elegant, too.

Use tatami mats, shoji screens, Hokusai art prints, ikebana (floral arrangement), silk lanterns. Top it all up with green tea- or mandarin orange essential oil fragrance.

The flip side of such an ambiance: you hardly want to step of your door :(

Mine is like a bed & breakfast feel. Hubby wants to put a t.v. in there but I have been holding him off. I want other things done in the house first, so that could take awhile.

last year I changed our master bedroom wall color from a light, bright pastel to a dark gold and brown. I absolutely love it. It’s dark and enveloping and relaxing. I love it darker :)

I love this! :D What a great looking bedroom! Dh didn’t put up the tv when we moved in, thankfully. :D We have a tropical feel to our bedroom after taking a cruise for our 10th anniversary several years ago and wanting to recapture it.

I am in the process of a makeover of our master bedroom. It is slow going because I have three kids that slightly cut into my craft time :) So far I have paint on the walls…now I just need to make my bedding and curtains…all in my “spare” time…right….

I’m such a believer in a peaceful bedroom. I think it is so often the most neglected room in the house and it should be just the opposite. When my bedroom is orderly and peaceful it starts and ends my day so much better then when things get cluttery. Thanks for the tips :)

Great article! My fave is about keeping a tv out of the bedroom (I’m guilty on that one).

@Amy: I love these tips too. I can relate… I feel like it’s not worth it to do major work in there because this isn’t our permanent home. Time to get over that feeling, I suppose, and get to work! lol
