@Heather

Please get another doctor. That is way too young for cereal and cereal should never be added to a bottle. I'll come back tomorrow with sleeping tips but please no cereal! Choking hazard plus bad for newborn!

Babies need the tatas, or, if you must, some good formula, not cereal! Please don't do it, its not normal for little ones to sleep through the night and go for hours on end without eating. They need the closeness and frequent eating, as much as they want, to fatten up. They can't get too fat, because they are going to run it off when they start walking. If you don't give into your baby's needs, they will have failure to thrive, which is very common with strict parents who insist on eating schedules and having their baby sleep through the night.

Well, after 7 babies I can tell you for sure that sleep isn't as much a tummy issue as it is a developmental issue. A baby will gain weight on cereal in a bottle, but they also have increased risk of developing ear infections when it's done.

My son is exactly 2 wks old..I have the same problem, he doesnt sleep but 20 mins here and there, so nights are very stressful. He just went to his first checkup with the doctor today and he told me that I COULD put cereal in his bottle. My reaction to that is " uhhhh WHAT??" Dont you think that would make them gain weight, thats what I thought. But I am thinkin about doing it! I need sleep like crazy. Has anybody actually done it?? Please let me know!! THANKS

I agree. People told me to do this many times with both my children. Thanks for helping to dispel the myth.

Great article! Nothing aggrivates me more than hearing people tell that to a new mom. It's just not neccessary. That, and a breastfed baby cluster feeding and people saying they're "not getting enough" and you should pump and/or switch to formula so you can feed it a bottle and add cereal to it ::eyeroll:: where does this stuff come from?

After my pediatrician told me NEVER to put baby cereal in the bottle, about 2 weeks later my best friends pediatrician told her TO put cereal in the bottle... I was like "Are you kidding me???" Because they said that she had a milk allergy so they switched the baby to a different formula and told her to add cereal- and go figure, they never even actually did a test to see if the baby was allergic to milk.
